Did you know the designer of the Oxford Community Center, formerly the Oxford School, was the renowned architect Henry Powell Hopkins? Hopkins (1891-1984) designed many buildings on the University of Maryland College Park campus, The Washington College in Chestertown campus, and numerous other significant structures throughout the state of Maryland. The Oxford School, now the Oxford Community Center, was built in 1928.
Welcome To The Oxford Community Center
Oxford Community Center (OCC) is located in the lovely waterside village of Oxford on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Oxford Community Center, Inc. (OCC) is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization, founded in 1971 by the citizens of Oxford and housed in a gracious old brick schoolhouse they saved from the wrecking ball when it was declared surplus for educational purposes. For over a quarter century, OCC has served as a community resource, offering residents and visitors alike a year-round schedule of social, cultural, and recreational programs and events. Our Facilities
Oxford Community Center contains a large auditorium-theater facility, several meeting rooms, and a commercial-grade kitchen.
The facilities are used for OCC's own programs and events, and can be rented for a wide variety of private functions-- receptions, art shows, reunions, theatrical events, concerts, educational programs, meetings, and much more. For more about our facilites, visit our Facilities section.
Tred Avon Players
The Oxford Community Center is also the home of the renowned Tred Avon Players who are a non-profit Maryland corporation organized in 1982 to present plays and musicals in the then newly-renovated Oxford Community Center ("OCC"). Since the first sold-out melodramas in August of 1982, TAP has grown in community stature and artistic merit to present four (sometimes five) plays and musicals each year for ever-growing numbers of residents on and visitors to the most livable town on the Eastern Shore.
